The Department of Economics, in
collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Cell, organised Econopreneurs’
Fest on the occasion of Entrepreneurs’ Day on 21st August 2025 from 2:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event was graced by Mrs. Sarita Malla as the Chief Guest,
who also delivered a guest lecture on entrepreneurship. A total of 96 students
participated in the fest, which included the activities AdShot, Founders’
Recall, and EconoBazaar. While AdShot and Founders’ Recall were conducted on
21st August, EconoBazaar was organised on 22nd August 2025 during the lunch
break. The event was a grand success, encouraging creativity, innovation, and
entrepreneurial spirit among students.
The inaugural session of the
event began at 2:00 p.m. with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mrs.
Sarita Malla, along with faculty members Dr. P. Ramani Latha and Ms. K.
Vasantha Saroj Kumari from the Department of Economics, Dr. Mousami Shankar
from the Department of Biochemistry, Ms. Yojana from the Department of
Mathematics, Mr. Ramesh from the Department of Political Science, and Dr. T.
Gayathri from the Department of Home Science.
GUEST
LECTURE
After the inaugural session, time
was given for the guest lecture by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sarita Malla, the
Managing Director of SS Function Hall. She delivered an inspiring lecture on
the topic “Success Journey of an Entrepreneur”, where she shared her
personal experiences, challenges, and achievements in the field of
entrepreneurship. Her words motivated the students to think beyond conventional
paths and develop the courage to take risks in order to achieve success. The
session was highly interactive and informative, and it was attended by 96
students, who actively participated and gained valuable insights into the
qualities and determination required to become a successful entrepreneur.
AD SHOT
After the guest lecture, the
first competition of the fest, AdShot, was organised. This event gave students
a platform to showcase their creativity by designing advertisements on
different themes and products. The ads, which were prepared in advance by the
participants, were presented during the session and screened in front of the
Chief Guest and Judge, Mrs. Sarita Malla. The competition created an engaging
atmosphere, with students displaying innovative ideas, persuasive content, and
appealing presentation styles. A total of 27 participants took part with great
enthusiasm, and their efforts reflected originality and strong communication
skills. After a keen evaluation, Lakshmi Prasanna from I MEC was
declared the winner, while K. Vigneshwari and D. Charmi from II Home Science
secured the position of runners-up.
FOUNDERS RECALL
After the AdShot activity, the
second competition, Founders’ Recall, was conducted. In this event, a sequence
of brand names and entrepreneur names was played in the form of a video. After
watching the sequence, the participants were required to recall and present the
names in the exact order in which they appeared. The activity tested the
memory, presence of mind, and awareness of students about leading brands and
entrepreneurs. A total of 12 students participated enthusiastically in this
competition. After a close contest, Kirtana from II MEC was declared the
winner, while Muskaan from II MEC secured the runner-up position.
ECNO BAAZAR
On 22nd August 2025, the
concluding activity of the fest, Econo Bazaar, was organised during the lunch
break. A total of 32 participants enthusiastically set up 13 stalls, creating a
lively marketplace atmosphere on the campus. The stalls displayed a variety of
handmade products such as bracelets, keychains, and hairbands, along with a
range of delicious food items including dahi puri, gulab jamun, manchuria, and
biryani. The event turned into a vibrant mela, where students actively
participated both as sellers and buyers, gaining hands-on experience in
entrepreneurship, marketing, and customer interaction.
VALIDICTORY
After the successful completion
of all the activities, the organisers felicitated the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sarita
Malla, as a gesture of gratitude for her valuable presence and encouragement
throughout the fest. A token of appreciation in the form of a plant was
presented to her, symbolising growth, prosperity, and the nurturing of new
ideas—values that strongly resonate with the spirit of entrepreneurship. The
moment was heartfelt and added significance to the occasion. Following this,
the Chief Guest distributed certificates to the winners and participants of
various competitions, appreciating their creativity, enthusiasm, and
commitment. Her words of motivation and personal interaction with the students
created a positive impact, leaving them inspired to take forward the learnings
from the event.
The Econopreneurs’ Fest 2025
was a grand success, providing students with a platform to express their
creativity and entrepreneurial skills. The active participation, valuable
insights from the Chief Guest, and the support of faculty members made the
event both meaningful and memorable.

FOUNDERS FIESTA 2K24
On the occasion of WORLD ENTREPRENEURS’ DAY, Department of ECONOMICS organised Founders Fiesta 2k24, an intercollegiate fest on 22nd of August 2024. Around 55 students (42 from other colleges and 13 students from our college SJC) have enthusiastically participated in the event. A total of 5 competitions were conducted namely “INNOVATE IN INK” (essay writing), “JUST A MINUTE” (extempore), “CREATIVE POSTER CHALLENGE” (poster making), “ENTREPRENEURIAL IQ TEST” (quiz), and “VENTURE VOYAGE” (Entrepreneurial Treasure Hunt).
The event began with an INAUGURAL session at 10:30am. Mrs. B .Pramila Deepti ,Sustainable coach, IB MYP Literature Facilitator,was invited as the chief guest for the event and Dr.T.Bhaskara Sudha ,HOD of English Dept. and Co-Ordinator of Humanities was also present in the event as the guest of honour. The esteemed guests as well as a few other faculty members lightened the Lamp to mark the beginning of the event. Later the chief guest Mrs. B. Pramila Deepti shared her valuable insights and thoughts, inspiring the young entrepreneurs. The Inaugural session concluded with a small Felicitation ceremony to the chief guest as well as the guest of honour.
Extempore
After the Inaugural session, the first academic competition that we conducted was “just a minute” (Extempore) in which 8 students participated and the judges for the competition were Mrs.B.Pramila Deepti , Dr.T.Gayatri , Assistant professor (H.Sc Department ) and Mrs V. Sony, Assistant professor (H.Sc Department) .The WINNER for this competition is K.HELSA from VINEX college and AKSHAYA from ADITYA college stood as the RUNNER –UP

Essay writing
The second competition is Essay writing in which 42 students participated. The judges for Essay writing are Dr.N.Jyothi ,HOD of Commerce and Management and Dr.K.Rajani, Assistant professor in department of Commerce and Management . Srishti Priya from KRISHNA college emerged as the WINNER and K. HELSA from VINEX college stood as the RUNNER –UP.
During the lunch hour, TREASURE HUNT was conducted in which 10 groups from different colleges participated. VINEX college and St. Ann’s college stood as the WINNERS and RUNNERS.
Quiz competition
Later Quiz competition with 34 participants was conducted .Mr.G.Ramesh ,HOD of political science and Mrs.K.Pratyusha ,Assistant professor in department of Commerce and Management acted as judges for the competition .WINNERS for quiz are from ADITYA college .Vinex and St.Ann’s emerged as the RUNNER –UP.
Poster making
The last competition that we conducted was poster making with around 15 participants. Dr.K.Sujatha HOD of Maths department and Mrs.N.Nivya from H.Sc department were the judges for the above competition . P. MANASA from SJC emerged as the WINNER and BASHEERA BEGUM from St.Ann’s stood as the RUNNER-UP.
VALEDICTORY CEREMONY
After the completion of all 5 competition a VALEDICTORY CEREMONY was organised wherein Dr.P.K.Jayalakshmi ,HOD of second languages was invited as the chief guest .Prizes along with participation certificates were distributed to the WINNERS and RUNNERS . A student bearing reg.no. FF01, from St.Ann’s college emerged as the WINNER in the “GOLDEN TICKET –ENTREPRENEURS LUCKY LOTTERY” .The valedictory ceremony concluded with the chief guest message and a small felicitation ceremony.
WORLD POPULATION DAY -2024
The Economics Department of St .Joseph's College for Women (A) has successfully hosted an elocution competition on July 10, 2024 on the occupation of world population day. The theme of the elocution competition was Global Migration and Population Diversity.
The event aims to enhance the public speaking skills of students as well as to provide them with a platform to express their views. In the competition , around 17 participants are from different disciplines.

On the occasion of Youth Day, 11-1-2023(12/11) Elocution is conducted on the topic “ Role of Youth in Recent Trend”.
50 Students have attended and expressed their views on the responsibility of youth in building the Nation become dynamic.
They are in view of human values and its crucial role in the present day world.

- 25-1-23 organized an Elocution on the topic Republic India on the eve of Republic Day.
- I,II&III Degree MECs&EEP students have participated and expressed their views on Indian constitution from the republic day started in the year 1953.
- EEP students mentions different articles which are very important for Indian democracy .

On the occasion of National Literacy Day 11th November ,Education Week is celebrated from 7-11-2022 to 10-11-2022 .
On 7-11-2022 - Poster Making and Food Without Fire competitions are conducted.
The theme for Poster Making is “ Skill India for Swarna Bharat” good number of students have participated in these competitions.

First Prize Dhafiya -I MECS
- 8-11-2022 and 9-11-2022 - Exhibition on “Leading Sectors of India” is organised by the department and students which is inaugurated by Vice Principal Sr. Hema.
- Intermediate students have exhibited Models on Green Revolution, SEZ and Irrigation Projects.
- II and III Degree students have exhibited their models on Industrial and Tertiary Sectors.
- Most of the students and Staff of the other Departments visited the Exhibition and given their valuable feedback.
First Prize is given for Agriculture Sector, Second Prize is given to SEZ and Tourism Sectors.
- On 10-11-2022 Debate is organised on the topic one or two Capitals at Inter Collegiate Level.
- First Prize is given to St.Joseph’s College for Women and Second Prize is given to Aditya Degree College. This Competition is judged by Mr. G. Ramesh HOD of Political Science.
- On 10-11-22 Elocution is organised on different topics chosen by students on the spot and judged by Dr.N. Jyothi, HOD of Commerce.
- On 11-11-22 Quiz on Current Affairs is Organised and good number of students have participated.
World Population day
